Earl G. Svoboda

Earl G. Svoboda, 78, of St. Paul died Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at the Howard County Medical Center in St. Paul.



Services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday at Christ Lutheran Church in St. Paul. The Reverend Shawn Kitzing will officiate. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul with military rites given by Carl Mogensen American Legion Post #119 of St. Paul.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or to Christ Lutheran Church in St. Paul.

Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.

Earl was born February 13, 1934 on the family farm northwest of St. Paul to Joseph and Anna (Klepetko) Svoboda.

He attended Howard County country school District 2 and graduated from St. Paul High School in 1951.

Earl entered the United States Army in January 1955. He was honorably discharged in 1957.

He returned to home where he began farming on the family farm.

Earl was baptized on March 20, 1962 and confirmed on March 26, 1962 by his father-in-law, Reverend A.L Kohtz.

He was united in marriage to Marilyn Kohtz on August 5, 1962 at Christ Lutheran Church in St. Paul.

The couple lived on the farm where he was engaged in farming and livestock. He also worked at the Ordinance Plant, New Holland Manufacturing, Ritz Feed, Howard County Department of Roads and drove school bus for St. Paul schools.

Earl was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in St. Paul and served as a church Elder and Treasurer for many years. He was also a member of the Carl Mogensen American Legion Post #119 of St. Paul and he served on the St. Paul Co-op Elevator Board.

Earl and Marilyn enjoyed traveling and traveling to visit family. He also enjoyed attending auctions and farm sales.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn of St. Paul; two sons and daughter-in-law, Todd Svoboda of Holdrege and Tim & Linda Svoboda of Grand Prairie, TX; one daughter & son-in-law, Kelly & Chip Thompson of Omaha; five grandchildren, Aaron, Adam & Zachery Svoboda of Lincoln, Tanner Thompson of Omaha and Isabella Svoboda of Grand Prairie, TX; four brothers & sisters-in-law, Lyle Svoboda of Lander, WY, Dale & Leona Svoboda and Milroy & Janice Svoboda all of Spokane, WA, and Jim Svoboda of Overgaard, AZ; one sister & brother-in-law, Betty & Wayne Galusha of Dixon, CA; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Earl is preceded in death by his parents and one brother Franklin Svoboda.
