Dorothy P. Blake, 89, of Dannebrog died Friday, October 5, 2018

at Park Place Nursing Home in Grand Island.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Dannebrog.  Pastor Donnie Halbgewachs will officiate.  Interment will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, October 11, 2018.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a family and friends Remembrance Service at 7:00 p.m. at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church or Dannebrog-Boelus Rescue Unit.

Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is assisting the family.

Dorothy is the daughter of George and Lillian (Ladd) Clinard and was born March 30, 1929 in Woodlawn, Tennessee.

Dorothy attended Toler Elementary School and Woodlawn High School.

She helped her father on the farm raising tobacco with mules and a plow.  She learned to play guitar and frequently played country music and sang with her brothers.

She was united in marriage to Walter F. Blake on July 22, 1944 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky.  After her marriage, she played at a benefit at a high school in Nashville with some members of the Grand Ole Opry.

Dorothy very quickly became an Army wife.  The couple renewed their wedding vows on their 40th wedding anniversary and had 41 households during that time.  Following Walter’s discharge from the Army, he joined the Civil Service and was a superintendent in the National Cemetery System.  Dorothy and Walter served at Lebanon, Kentucky and Fort McPherson at Maxwell, NE.  Following Walter’s retirement, he and Dorothy moved to Dannebrog in 1976.

Dorothy was active in 4-H, Women’s Bible Study, she taught Sunday School, children’s clubs and was a director of Evergreens Senior Citizens Group.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dannebrog.

She enjoyed sewing and crafts, was devoted to family and friends and always had a smile for everyone.  She shared a love of hunting and fishing with her husband for many years.

Dorothy is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Kathy Blake of Peyton, CO and Gerald and Janette Blake of Dannebrog; three daughters and a son-in-law, Kathy Main of Wood River, Chris Blake of Colorado Springs, and Becky and Alan Davis of Phillips; ten grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Estelle Harrison of Clarksville, Tennessee and Gloria Cotton-Blake of El Paso, Texas; two brothers-in-law and their spouses, Gordon and Janet Blake of Hastings and Eugene and Mary Blake of Winfield, Kansas; and one sister-in-law, Sally Clinard of Big Rock, Tennessee and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter; a grandson, David Blake; three brothers, Thomas, Elvin and Brownell Clinard and four sisters, Thelma Evans, Lorene Clinard, Leora Clinard and Elsie Mae Gray.
