Doris M. Leth, 82, of St. Paul, died Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.
Doris's wishes were to be cremated.
Memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in St. Paul. Carolyn Hellerich will officiate. There will be no visitation held.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Paul EMT's or St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
Doris was born July 29, 1929 to Steven and Bessie (Jacobsen) Larkowski on a farm north of Nysted, Nebraska.
She attended District #17 at Nysted and then attended Dannebrog School for three years, where she graduated from Dannebrog High School in 1946.
After high school, Doris worked in Grand Island at the Hall County Courthouse for one year before moving to St. Paul where she began working at the Howard County Courthouse.
Soon after she met Lyle Leth and they were united in marriage February 19, 1951 at Nysted Evangelical Church at Nysted.
After taking some years off for her children, she returned to the courthouse in 1963 where she worked in both the County Clerk and the County Treasurer offices. She continued to work there for another 25 years before retiring in 1988.
Doris served as a Howard County election official, counting votes for many years. She was active in the Howard County Historical Society and was a charter member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Her church was an important part of Doris' life. She was a Sunday school teacher, a Council member, Serving Group leader and treasured being a member of Lois Circle for many years.
Doris cherished her grandchildren and loved playing with them. She enjoyed going for long walks, trips to the farm with Lyle, her bowling team, Nebraska football and the game of baseball. She also loved reminiscing about the old days and growing up with ten brothers and sisters. One of her greatest joys were getting together with them, telling and listening to stories of those days.
Left to cherish her memory are her two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve & Carol Leth of St. Paul, Kenneth & Alene Leth of Aurora, CO; a daughter & son-in-law, Kristine & Joe Alonge of Tonganoxie, KS; special niece, Cindy and her husband, John Tarrell of Gibbon; a special nephew, Roger and his wife Janelle Reimers of Lincoln; eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren; four brothers & sisters-in-law, Gailord & Helen Larkowski of Fairfield, TN, Gerald & Peg Larkowski of Rogersville, Missouri, Rev. Lavern & Marilyn Larkowski of Omaha, Larry & Cheryl Larkowski of Ord; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Nancy & Jim Darling of Kearney and Kathy & Kirby Christensen of Ravenna; and two sisters-in-law, Alberta Larkowski and Diana (Larkowski) Honore.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lyle on November 26, 2002, two brothers Donald & Daniel Larkowski and two sisters Helen Reimers and Linda Zaruba.
