Doris M. Haney, 91, of Grand Island, formerly of Dannebrog, died Sunday, June 13, 2010 at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday in the All Faiths Chapel at the Nebraska Veterans Home Chapel in Grand Island with the Reverend Robert Carlson, Jr. officiating.
A time to greet the family and a lunch will be held from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Dannebrog. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Dannevirke Lutheran Church in Dannevirke. The Reverend Robert Carlson, Jr. will officiate. Inurnment will be held in the Dannevirke Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Dannebrog.
Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
Doris was born March 16, 1919 at Dannevirke, Nebraska to Chris & Edith (Jensen) Nielsen.
She attended country school #29 at Dannevirke.
Doris was united in marriage to Robert S. Haney on February 19, 1948 in Chicago, IL. The couple lived at the Naval Air Test Center, Patuxent River until the death of her husband in March 1951.
Doris and her young daughter moved to Dannebrog to live with her mother. There she lived until moving to the Nebraska Veterans Home in 2001.
She worked very hard all her life. She worked as a waitress, worked in the Johnson's grocery store, a janitor at the school, Grand Island Army Ammunition Plant and also worked as a housekeeper at the Grand Island Veterans Home.
Doris loved to golf, bowl and make ceramics. She loved her family and many friends. We will say goodbye for now, but she will not be forgotten.
Doris was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Naomi Circle, Altar Guild, all of Dannebrog. She was also a member of the Mickelsen-Larkowski American Legion Auxiliary #241 of Dannebrog, the Rebecka Lodge of Dannebrog and the Danish Sisterhood #113.
Survivors include one daughter & son-in-law, Edie & Roger Grim of Dannebrog; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one sister, Eda Mae Jensen of Norfolk; one brother & two sisters-in-law; Chris M. & Bev Nielsen II of Englewood, CO & Shirley A. Nielsen of Laramie, WY; many nieces & nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Virgil Nielsen, Louie Nielsen and Marinus Nielsen; one sister Erma V. Brittain; one infant brother Earl Nielsen; one infant grandson, Robin Grim.
