Donald D. Schmidt

May 13, 1954 — February 2, 2015

Donald D. Schmidt, 60, of St. Paul died Monday, February 2, 2015 at his home in St. Paul, Nebraska.

Memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul. Reverend Thomas Clark will officiate.

Inurnment will be in Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul with military honors by Carl Mogensen American Legion Post #119 of St. Paul.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Paul Fire Department.

Don was born May 13, 1954 in Ord to Dale and Maxine (Friedrichsen) Schmidt.

He was raised in St. Paul and attended St. Paul Public School.

Don entered the U.S. Army on January 4, 1973. Don served as an infantryman and a parachutist. He received his discharge on September 7, 1978.

He then returned to St. Paul where he worked in construction, carpentry and he was also a truck driver for a mail route.

Don was truly an outdoorsman where he hunted, fished and trapped and was a very good archery hunter. If Don had been born 100 years ago, he would have been a great survivalist. He also enjoyed making willow furniture.

Don's true love and passion was owning and training dogs.

He was a loving, warm hearted and honest man.

Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Rick Kwiatkowski of St. Paul; his fiancé©, Judy Whitecalf and her grandchildren of Grand Island; nephews, Matt and Cory Schmidt, both of Grand Island; Jeff Crouch and family of Kearney; nieces, JoAnna Ringlein and family and Amy Hewitt and family, all of Kearney; many friends and his beloved dogs, Tally and Sassy.

Don is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Delbert and Jimmie Schmidt and three beloved dogs, Bowser, Snaps and Roscoe.
