Donald D. Obermiller, 84, of Grand Island, formerly of Dannebrog died Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, at Faith Lutheran-Nysted St. Peder's Church in Nysted. The Reverend Robert Carlson, Jr. will officiate.
Inurnment will be held at 9:30 a.m., Monday at Kelso Cemetery, southwest of Farwell.
Visitation will be on Sunday, from 4 - 7 p.m. at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to Faith Lutheran-Nysted St. Peder's Church, Dannebrog Fire and Rescue or the Grand Generation Center in Grand Island.
Don was born to Emil and Anna (Hagmann) Obermiller, on August 9, 1930 in Dannebrog.
Don was raised on a farm near Dannebrog and lived in the local area for all of his life. He attended rural school District #74 near Dannebrog.
He was united in marriage to Doris Lemburg on August 28, 1949 at St. Peder's Church in Nysted.
Don was baptized in Nysted in 1950 and church became a very important part of his life.
He was a lifetime farmer, starting in 1949 and retiring in 1990.
The couple moved to Grand Island in 2010.
Don enjoyed the outdoors doing camping, fishing and traveling. He also enjoyed many card games and received much enjoyment from the many bluebirds he raised. He also built bluebird houses which he maintained.
He was close to his children, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins and his large family of brothers and sisters.
Don was a member of Faith Lutheran-Nysted St. Peder's Church in Nysted and the Platt-Duetsche of Grand Island.
Survivors include his wife, Doris of Grand Island; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bradley and Debra Obermiller of Cairo and Rodney and Mary Pat Obermiller of Sheridan, WY; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren, five brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Arlene Obermiller of Grand Island, , Harold Obermiller of St. Paul; Jim and Beth Obermiller of Grand Island; and Emil and Vicki Obermiller of Ravenna; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Larry Stutzman of Cairo and Connie and Darrel Andersen of Grand Island; and three sisters-in-law, Vange Obermiller of St. Paul and Mary and Betty Lou Obermiller, both of Grand Island
He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Gailord, Delvin and Paul Obermiller and a sister, Darlene Eilenstine.
