Dolores Rose Christensen, 89 of Grand Island, formerly of Dannebrog & Palmer, died Monday, July 30, 2018 at CHI St. Francis Health in Grand Island.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 3, 2018 at Peace Lutheran Church in Grand Island. Pastor Michael Reiners will be officiating. Interment will be 2:00 P.M. Friday at Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer.
Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. Thursday at Peace Lutheran Church in Grand Island.
Memorials are suggested to Peace Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Hour, or the Comfort Dog Ministry at Peace Lutheran Church.
Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Dolores was born January 13, 1929 in Palmer to Ferdinand and Rosa (Bader) Miller.
She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Palmer. She received her education at Palmer Schools, graduating in 1946.
Dolores worked in Palmer at the telephone office, post office, State Bank and the office of Dr. J. Y. Racines.
She was united in marriage to Edgar Nickel on March 5, 1948. Two children were born to this union, Michael and Sally. Edgar preceded her in death on February 14, 1973.
Dolores was united in marriage to Richard Christensen on September 2, 1978 in Dannebrog.
Dolores was active in her churches, including St. John’s Lutheran Church in Palmer, Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Dannebrog and currently Peace Lutheran Church in Grand Island. She also volunteered at St. Francis Medical Center, the bloodmobile and served on the Hall County Election Board.
She is survived by a daughter, Sally (Nickel) Anderson of Highlands Ranch, CO; a son, Mick Nickel of Santa Fe, NM; grandchildren, Amanda Hardwick and her husband Corey, Danielle Anderson, Lara Nickel and Nicolas Graille, and Claire Nickel; step-daughters, Cheryl and Larry Klock of Pueblo, CO, Peg and Randy Lienemann of Hildreth and Julie and Wayne Whitefoot of Boelus; step-grandchildren, Christy and Brad Anderson, Kevin Klock, Rick Lienemann, Rydell and Abbie Lienemann, Raquel and Scott Blank, Steven Loeffelbein, Rich and Sherise Loeffelbein, Lesley and Adam Wozny and Lindsey and David Washington; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Edgar Nickel and Richard Christensen on August 9, 2008; sisters, Florence Luebke and Nora Kanter and brothers, Martin, Norman and Walter Miller.
