Dennis G. Vanosdall

Dennis Glenn Vanosdall, 69, of Las Vegas, NV, passed away on May 23, 2017 at his home after a long battle with COPD. Dennis was born August 16, 1947 in Grand Island, NE to T. Glenn Vanosdall and Betty M. (Horst) Vanosdall.

He was raised in Grand Island, Nebraska and graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1965.

Dennis served in the United States Army from 1966-1969. Upon receiving his discharge, he attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison School of Engineering. He later returned to Grand Island, where he was employed as a journeyman electrician at his father’s business, Van’s Electric, before starting and operating his own business, Electrical Contractors Inc., until 2002. In 2003, he and his wife, Ann, moved to Las Vegas where he worked for Clark County as an electrical inspector up to his retirement from the Clark Country Water Reclamation District in the fall of 2012.

Dennis is survived by his wife of 26 years, Ann, and their dog Max of Las Vegas; his mother Betty Vanosdall of Grand Island, NE; two sons, Shawn Vanosdall of Yutan, NE and Scott (Marcy) Vanosdall of Omaha, NE; two stepdaughters, Lacy (Nick) Meinke of Lincoln, NE and Lindsay Hameloth of Las Vegas, NV; and one sister, Julie (John) Doescher of Grand Island, NE. Also surviving are seven grandchildren.

Dennis was a lifelong car racer and was a member of both the NHRA and NRCA. He was a 26-year member of American Legion. He was baptized in 2011 at Bright Angel Church of Christ, Las Vegas, NV. He enjoyed living at Kuester Lake while in Grand Island. His hobbies included fishing, drag racing, NASCAR, puzzles, and playing Solitare.

Dennis was preceded in death by his father, T. Glenn Vanosdall; grandparents, Theo and Helen Vanosdall, and William and Emma Horst; and one son, Ted Vanosdall.

A memorial to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at the Bright Angel Church of Christ in Las Vegas, NV. A memorial will also be held in Nebraska at a later date. Dennis was cremated per his wishes.
