Dennis L. Steffey

Dennis Leroy Steffey, 69, of Longmont, CO passed away on Friday, June 23, 2017 surrounded by family at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Lafayette, CO.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul with memories and music to be shared at 12:00 p.m.  Inurnment will be in Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul with military honors by the Carl Mogensen American Legion Post 119 of St. Paul and the United States Air Force Funeral Honor Guard.

Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice or any Veterans organization.

Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge arrangements.

Dennis was born in Annapolis, MD on August 20, 1947 to Merril Fredrick and Ruby Virginia (Klinginsmith) Steffey.

He began his travels early as his dad was in the Navy and they moved around the U.S. in his childhood.

After his military service in the U.S. Air Force in which he was stationed in Germany, he received his discharge and then continued his travels east to India, Sri Lanka, South Korea, Iraq, Iran and many more destinations.  He moved to Japan while teaching English there he met his future wife Debbie Cole.

They moved to her home country of England where they were married and lived for a short time.

In 1988, they moved to Boulder, CO where their daughter, Hannah was born, eventually settling in Longmont where Dennis made a career of scientific glassblowing at the University of Colorado in Boulder.

Dennis loved to go camping, hiking and skiing in the Rocky Mountains with his family.  He also enjoyed wood carving, photography and artistic glassblowing.

Later in life Dennis became a guitar enthusiast and joined a couple bluegrass groups and performed in area venues.  When he wasn’t performing with his groups, he enjoyed listening to musicians at local coffee shops. Dennis loved spending time with his brother in Arizona and his sister, mom and other family members in Nebraska.

He was always ready for a meal or cup of coffee with his friends.

Survivors include his daughter, Hannah Steffey of Arvada, CO; brother, Terry Steffey and his wife, Cathy of Sun City, Arizona; sister, Cindy Steffey of St. Paul; three aunts, Darlene and Shirley Klinginsmith of St. Paul and Mikki Klinginsmith of San Antonio, TX; a niece Shawna Huxel; several cousins; and a special friend, Debbie Cole.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a nephew, Brent Steffey; aunts and uncles and cousins.
