Dennis Lukasiewicz

November 14, 1947 — May 19, 2013

Dennis E. Lukasiewicz, 65, of St. Paul died Sunday, May 19, 2013 at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island from Frontal Temporal Dementia brain disorder. In their willingness to help others, Dennis's brain was donated to the Harvard Medical Research Center for the research of the disease which Dennis suffered.

A celebration of life service for family and friends will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday at their home residence, 1313 Hardy Road, St. Paul, NE. The Reverend Carolyn Hellerich will officiate. Military honors will be presented by the Carl Mogensen American Legion Post #119 of St. Paul.

A family inurnment will be held in Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul

A time for greeting the family and signing the book will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., Wednesday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to a scholarship fund in Dennis's name for a St. Paul High School student pursuing a career in Agriculture, the Carl Mogensen American Legion Post #119 of St. Paul or the St. Paul Fire Department.

Dennis was born November 14, 1947 in St. Paul to Ivan & LaFerne (Jensen) Lukasiewicz.

He attended school in St. Paul and graduated from St. Paul High School in 1966.

He entered the United States Navy on October 21, 1966. Dennis worked as a boiler technician on the USS Constellation, serving three tours of duty off of the coast of Vietnam. He was honorably discharged December 15, 1970.

Dennis was united in marriage to Susan Francl on March 8, 1969 in Palmer, Nebraska.

The couple moved to St. Paul in December 1970 and Dennis began farming with his dad and brother.

Farming was Dennis' passion which he was involved in for all his life and he also raised cattle until 1988.

He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church of St. Paul, Carl Mogensen American Legion Post #119 of St. Paul and the United Veterans Club in Grand Island.

Dennis enjoyed volunteering at Bloodmobile drives. He had a kind heart when helping people in their time of need. He loved every minute he could spend with his grandchildren. He was always making welding art in which he was very good at. He would always do what he could to honor veterans in the American Legion Color Guard.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Susan of St. Paul; a son & daughter-in-law, Troy & Delcie Lukasiewicz of St. Paul; a daughter & son-in-law, Holly & Scott Persson of Lincoln; five grandchildren, Kinzie, Sydney and Ashlyn Lukasiewicz, Keaton & Brynley Persson; and two brothers, Don and Brian Lukasiewicz of St. Paul.

He is preceded in death by his parents.
