Dennis Ervin Eckstrom

May 25, 1946 — January 11, 2021

Dennis E. Eckstrom, 74 of Palmer, died on Monday, January 11, 2021 at the Grand Island Regional Medical Center due to complications from Covid-19.

Funeral Services will be at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at the Restoration Place – Wesleyan Church in Palmer, Nebraska.  Pastor Daniel Bear will be officiating.  Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer, with military ritesprovided by the Burton-Beyer American Legion Post #120 of Palmer.

Visitation will be from 5-8 P.M. on Friday at the Restoration Place – Wesleyan Church in Palmer, Nebraska.  Greenway-Dietz Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dennis was born to Ervin & Viola (Peck) Eckstrom on May 25, 1946 in Genoa, Nebraska.  He received his education at District 31 & Palmer Public Schools.  He entered the U.S. Army in 1965 and was honorably discharged in 1968. In 1968, he was awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Outstanding Performance of Duty as Senior Vehicle Mechanic for Headquarters 45th Medical Battalion while serving in the U.S. Army. After leaving the army, he worked at Hardman Lumber as a truck driver where in 1979, he was honored as the “Truck Driver of the Year”. He married Janet Fishler on June 24, 1972.  He worked at the Clayton Peterson Motor Company in St. Paul, NE as a mechanic and he worked at Zehr Bee’s for his good friend Leroy Zehr.  He then worked for Dinsdale Express, he hauled liquid feed for Performance Plus to Herd Co. Cattle Company in Bartlett, Nebraska until he retired in 2016.  After retirement he helped at the elevator and he helped his good friend, Les Bockmann, on his farm and car dealership.

He enjoyed auto auctions, cars, tractors & 4-wheelers.  He loved to make his way around town on his four-wheeler to visit with anyone and everyone. He loved his family and grandchildren, but most of all he loved serving the Lord.  In his retirement he enjoyed being outside just sitting on the porch. Dennis loved donating blood and was always helping others.  Dennis was a kind-hearted and hardworking man who always looked out for his family and friends.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Janet of Palmer: sons & daughters-in-law, Rex & Barb Friedrichsen of Fullerton, Eric & Taneasha Eckstrom of Archer, Anthony Eckstrom of Palmer; daughters & sons-in-law, Michelle & Brent Ogden of Atkinson, Kimberly & Joseph Espinoza of Stanton, Sarah & Chad Decastro of Palmer; brother & sister-in-law, Lonnie & Cheryl Eckstrom of Palmer; sister, Linda Kruse of Grandview, MO; grandchildren, Brittany, Christopher, Jaegher, Channing, Aleigha, Dominick, Kwayd, Noah, Izayiah, Ezrah, Alyssa, Jaden, Makenna, Brayan, Brooklyn, Aden, Addison, Adreya, Carson, & Caysen; great-grandchildren, Faith, Abby, Maci, Brently, & Blaire.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Gaylene Pulscher; & great-grandson, Jasper who also entered rest on January 11, 2021.
