Della E. Vance, 99, of Grand Island formerly of Scotia died March 31, 2010 at Greeley Care Center in Greeley.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Reverend Martha Voigt will officiate. Burial will held in Mount Hope Cemetery in Scotia. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Della was born January 5, 1911 to Robert & Mattie (Petersen) Gebauer in Valley County, Nebraska.
She was raised in Greeley County and attended rural District 52 near Scotia. She graduated from Scotia High School in 1928.
Della was united into marriage to Lynn Vance on April 12, 1932 in Greeley. The couple lived and farmed east of Scotia. In 1955 the couple moved to a farm north of Cotesfield. Lynn died in 1964.
After her husband passed away, Della moved to Grand Island where she lived there for several years. She worked at Conoco Café©, Skagway, Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant, and JCPenneys.
Della moved to Greeley Assisted Living in 2008, and then moved to the Greeley Care Home in 2009.
She was a member of the Scotia Methodist Church, Lamartine Club, Busy Bees Club and Business & Professional Women's Club in Grand Island. She also was a foster grandparent in the Foster Grandparent program at St. Francis Medical Center for 28 years.
She enjoyed being around people, cooking, watching cranes, and playing pinochle. She also loved her family very much.
Della is survived by two daughters & son-in-law, Bonnie Steffen of Scotia and Betty & Ron Luth of Columbus; one son-in-law, Glen Hadenfeldt; eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lynn, a daughter Babs Hadenfeldt, one son-in-law Loren Steffen, one sister Eva Vance and one brother, Bud Gebauer.
