Delbert (Del) D. Berst, 79, of Grand Island died Saturday, January 10, 2015 at CHI St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island, Nebraska.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Reverend Sheri Lodel will officiate.
Interment will be held in Westlawn Memorial Park in Grand Island.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., Wednesday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.

Memorials are suggested to the Calvary Lutheran Church or South Logan Cemetery or to the family's choice.

Delbert was born July 12, 1935 near Cushing, Nebraska to Charles and Marie (Petersen) Berst.

Delbert grew up in the Cushing and Palmer areas. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith.

He received his education at rural school District #53 in Merrick County.

He farmed with his father until his father's death in 1961. Delbert then worked at Lemmerman's Poultry Farm for five years in Palmer. He then began working at New Holland in Grand Island in 1966 until his retirement in1990 after 24 years. He worked part time at Jack's car wash for a few years.

He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and the Platt-Duetsche in Grand Island.

Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Charlotte Berst of Grand Island and Donna Berst of St. Paul; seven nieces and nephews; numerous great nieces and great nephews and great great-nieces and great great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Edward and Harold Berst; a sister and brother-in-law, Jo-Ann and Howard Koth; and an infant sister, Beverly.
