Darrell “Dog” L. Reimers, 49 of Grand Island, died Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at the V.A. Hospital in Grand Island.
A Celebration of Darrel’s Life will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, October 20, 2018 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Palmer. Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer. Military Honors will be provided by the Carl Mogensen American Legion Club Post 119. Pastor Tom Clark will be officiating. The family is requesting casual attire, Husker Football or Green Bay Packer shirts.
Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. Friday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Palmer. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the V.A. Hospice Wing at the V.A. Hospital in Grand Island. Greenway Funeral Home in Palmer is in charge of arrangements.
Darrell was born on January 1, 1969 to William “Bill” Reimers and Wanda (Snell) Reimers in St. Paul. He grew up in St. Paul and graduated from St. Paul in 1987. In high school, he played football, wrestled and played American Legion Baseball. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1987-1991, stationed in NAS Lemoore, CA and sailed with the VFA147 on the USS Nimitz. He was united in marriage to Sandy Davis on February 4, 2005. Darrell was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in St. Paul, Grand Island Rifle Club, Saddle Club, the American Legion, and Aviation Ordnance. He enjoyed tinkering on cars, coin collecting, and spending time with his NAVY brothers. He also liked to travel, but most of all, he was proud of being in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his mother, Wanda Reimers of Grand Island; father, William “Bill” Reimers of St. Paul; fiancé, Lynn Skorniak of Aurora; brothers & sister-in-law, David & Rhonda Reimers of Palmer, Darwin Reimers of Palmer; sisters & brothers-in-law, Dena & Rick Conrad of St. Libory, Ronni & Len Herrick of Franklin, Sandy & Herb Bryson of Wellington, KS, Deb Foss of St. Paul; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, & cousins.
Darrell was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Allen Collins; wife, Sandy (Davis) Reimers; & step-mother, Paula Reimers.
