Darrel L. Petzoldt, 77 of St. Paul, Nebraska, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at the Howard County Medical Center in St. Paul.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Jacobsen-Greenway-Dietz Funeral Home in St. Paul. Interment will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Island.
Visitation will be from 5-7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at Jacobsen-Greenway-Dietz Funeral Home in St. Paul.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.
Darrel was born September 10, 1946, to Theodore and Deloris (Niemoth) Petzoldt in Grand Island, Nebraska. Darrel received his education in Grand Island at Howard Elementary School and graduated from St. Paul High School in 1964.
Darrel was very mechanically inclined. He owned two gas stations in St. Paul and then worked for Gary Ambroze driving the garbage route for St. Paul area residents. Darrel later bought the business from Gary serving St. Paul and Howard County residents for many years. In his spare time, he liked to garden and can the vegetables he grew. Darrel was an avid bowler, winning many trophies. He was a Chevy guy who enjoyed his classic cars, restoring them and making them shine. Darrel liked to hunt and enjoyed dancing to polka’s when possible. He loved his PBR and Black Cherry Windsor, as well as ice cream, especially chocolate shakes. His friends at Jake’s Bar were very important to him, creating friendships that lasted a lifetime.
Those left to cherish his memory include his significant other, Shelly Meininger; her son and his wife, Josh and Angie Meininger; and their children, Taylor, Grant and Hunter Meininger; sister and brother-in-law, Leslie and Robert “Bob” Sack; and cousins, Kenny Ruff and Lavern Petzoldt. He also leaves behind many close friends who were like family, Arthur, Trevor and Skye Carter, David and Laura Rhoads, Levi and Janessa Rhoads, Lacy Rhoads, Kenny and Sue Hostetler, Joe and Amanda Hostetler, Melissa Hostetler, and Bryan Hostetler, Jeremy and Lori Hostetler, Malachi, Bryce, Jade, & Kailie Hostetler, and Kaylee Tagel, Becky Lynch, Anthony Lynch, and John Lynch, Deb Meininger, Aaron and Sara Johnson, Kadence, Kinsley, Harper, and Noah Johnson.
Darrel was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Michelle Ann Medina.
