Darrel H. Lockwood, 76 years old, of Palmer, Nebraska died Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 2:35 p.m., at the Nebraska Medical Center-Clarkson Tower in Omaha, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Palmer, Nebraska. The Reverend Robert Schilling will officiate. Burial will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer with military rites at graveside by Burton Beyer American Legion Post #120 of Palmer. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m., Sunday at Greenway Funeral Home in Palmer.

Mr. Lockwood was born January 21, 1936 at Grand Meadow, Minnesota to Charles H. and Evelyn H. (Norby) Lockwood.
He grew up in the Grand Meadow area and graduated from Grand Meadow High School in 1953. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1957 with an agricultural degree. He was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rhoe Fraternity.
On December 19, 1958 he entered the United States Marine Corps. He was honorably discharged on May 14, 1964. During his time in the Marine Corp reserves he lived in Ohio and later farmed with his father in Grand Meadow Minnesota.
In late, 1961 he moved to Kenesaw, Nebraska to work as a feed salesman for G and M feed Company (cupreme feeds).
On January 19, 1963 he was united in marriage to Dianna M. Kroll at Christ Lutheran Church in Juniata, Nebraska.
The couple moved to North Platte,Nebraska for a short time, then back to Kenesaw. They lived in Iowa for 5 years, Grand Island and Alda for a short time, then Marquette for a few years. All that time working in feed sales.
In 1973 they bought a farm north of Palmer and lived there for 32 years, nearly 30 of those years having a large hog operation. Later he worked briefly for Swift & Company & Dinsdale Brothers before having his trucking company, Lockwood Transport.
In 2005 they moved into Palmer. In 2007 Dianna passed away from cancer. Darrel had spent the last couple of years living in Palmer, Lincoln and Arizona.
Darrel was a member of the Palmer Flying Club for many years and enjoyed being a local Pilot.
His hobbies after no longer being able to fly due to health reasons were traveling, reading, news and the Markets. He was involved in farming till his death.
He is survived by his son & daughter-in-law, James & Taffy Ann Lockwood of Palmer; two grandchildren; one sister & brother-in-law, Carol & Loren Nelson of Rochester, MN; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Karen & Gerry Brown of Omaha; two nephews and two nieces; eleven grand nephews and grand nieces; one aunt, Ruth Kroll of Kenesaw, NE; many cousins; and a very special friend, Norma Wittmaack of Lincoln, NE.
Darrel is preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, a daughter Kristine, and by his wife Dianna M. Lockwood.
