Darold Townsend

Darold Townsend, 88, of St. Paul died Thursday, September 10, 2015 in the same home where he was born, north of St. Paul.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wolbach.  Vicar Marcia Dorn will officiate.

Interment will be in South Logan Cemetery, north of St. Paul.

Visitation will be on Sunday, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.

Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church in Wolbach, Howard County Medical Center in St. Paul or to the donor’s choice.

Mr. Townsend was born October 25, 1926 in Howard County north of St. Paul to Andrew and Carrie (Schow) Townsend.

Darold was raised and spent his entire life on the family farm in rural St. Paul.  He attended St. Paul Schools where he graduated in 1943.

He was united in marriage to Ellamae Allen on January 5, 1957 in Grand Island.

The couple lived on Darold’s family farm north of St. Paul where he was engaged in farming for his entire life, except for a period of time he was employed by the Twin Loups Irrigation project in Scotia.

Darold served on various church councils, Farmer’s Union Board, Farm Bureau Board and was involved with the Study Buddy Program in the St. Paul Schools.

Darold enjoyed bowling, wordsearch puzzles, and sports including going to the Kansas City Royals baseball games and listen to ball games on the radio.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Wolbach.

Survivors include his wife, Ellamae of St. Paul; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Kim and Beth Townsend of Council Bluffs, IA, Chris and Terri Townsend of St. Paul, Kyle and Robin Townsend of Hickman, NE, Cory Townsend of Grand Island, and Kerry and Heidi Townsend of St. Paul; 12 grandchildren, Dustin Townsend and his wife Sarah, Derek Townsend and his wife Stephanie, Logan, Braden, and Dylan Townsend, John Mark, Christian & Lyli Townsend, Kasey and Kamden Townsend and Madison and Branson Townsend; 1 great-grandson, Henry Townsend; 3 great-granddaughters, Emily, Mallory and Cami Townsend; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Townsend of St. Paul and nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Camille Townsend; an infant grandson, Kalen Jon Townsend; a sister, Evelyn Rasmussen; 3 brothers, Howard Townsend, Marvin Townsend who was killed during World War II in Belgium in the Battle of the Bulge, and Warren Townsend; and an infant brother, Orville Townsend.
