Clarence A. Kanter, 88, of Palmer died Saturday, November 24, 2012 at the Howard County Medical Center in St. Paul.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Palmer. The Reverend Thomas Clark will officiate. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer with military honors by the Burton Beyer American Legion Post #120 of Palmer.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the church in Palmer.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Greenway Funeral Home in Palmer is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Kanter was born June 22, 1924 in Palmer to Arthur W. and Katherine D. (Holtz) Kanter. He attended rural school District 19 near Palmer and then graduated from Palmer High School in 1941.
After his schooling, he began working on the farm until entering the U.S. Army on June 20, 1945. He served as a clerk for the Military Police Battalion in Berlin, Germany. Clarence received his honorable discharge on December 2, 1946.
He then returned to Nebraska and began working for Walt Peters and his brother Edwin Kanter near St. Libory.
Clarence was united in marriage to Katherine Butt on June 24, 1951 in Central City. In 1953 the couple returned to the family farm west of Palmer where they farmed and raised their family.
Clarence enjoyed attending Hereford cattle sales and auctions. He liked John Deere and loved the views that the farm offered.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the Burton Beyer American Legion Post 120, both of Palmer.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Linda Kanter of Palmer; a daughter-in-law, Carol Kanter of York; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Katherine on August 7, 1998; a son, Wayne; a daughter-in-law, Gayle Kanter; 2 great grandchildren, Michelle and Angela Kanter; 3 brothers, Glenn, Edwin and Harold Kanter and a sister, Annie Weber.
