Cecil G. Kennedy, 86, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, formerly of Dannebrog died Thursday, December 3, 2015 at the Heart Hospital in Albuquerque.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 19, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in St. Paul. Reverend Randy Dilts will officiate. A private family inurnment will be in Hillside Cemetery in North Loup.
Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, December 18 at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Paul United Methodist Church or donor's choice.
Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Kennedy was born May 17, 1929 at North Loup to Cecil and Mamie (Gans) Kennedy.
He grew up in the North Loup, Callaway, Loup City and Ericson areas, graduating from Ericson High School in 1946.
After graduation he worked for several farmers before starting with the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1949.
On June 5, 1949 he married Wynona McCoig in Dannebrog.
The couple made their home in Grand Island, O’Neill, Lexington and St. Paul while he was working for the telephone company.
In 1973 they moved to a farm by Dannebrog where they farmed and he continued to work for the telephone company. In 1990 he retired from US West after forty-one years. After his retirement he worked for Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul for several years as a funeral assistant.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in St. Paul for over 50 years where he held several offices and was on the building committee for the new church, built in 1990.
In October 2015 he and his wife moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico to be near their daughter.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Wynona of Albuquerque; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Jennie Kennedy of Houston; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Russell Doehling of Albuquerque and Sheila and Dean Grell of Bellevue, NE; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Delma McCoig of St. Paul and Dorphine Gyllstrom of Battle Creek, MI and a sister-in-law, Edna Webb of St. Paul.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Francis Minino, and three brothers-in-law, Rocco Minino, Bob Gyllstrom and Lloyd McCoig.
