Beulah Scarborough, 95, of St. Paul, died Thursday, July 12, 2012 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in St. Paul, Nebraska. The Reverend Randy Dilts will officiate. Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday in Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer, Nebraska. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., Monday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Paul United Methodist Church or to the Matelyn Retirement Community.
Beulah was born August 3, 1916 near Palmer to Bert & Ruby (Campbell) Ross.
At the age of three, the family moved to a farm in the Gage Valley area; later living in the Dannebrog area before returning to Gage Valley.
She attended Howard County Schools, Districts 60 & 13 and Dannebrog High School. She was a 1933 graduate of St. Paul High School and went on to attend Kearney State College.
Her teaching career included six years in Howard and Merrick County rural schools before her marriage.
She was united marriage to Harold Scarborough on May 24, 1939. To this union, they were blessed with one son Eugene on May 19, 1947.
After marriage, she taught school for two years in Howard County.
The couple resided on the Scarborough family farm in the Gage Valley area until 1948 when they purchased a farm between Palmer and Archer.
Before their retirement in 1974, Beulah was employed by Lemmerman Hatchery and later by the Palmer Journal for fifteen years.
She enjoyed sewing, crafts and crocheting. She also enjoyed playing cards. She compiled scrap books of tours and trips with some of her souvenirs she collected included bells, coffee mugs, salt and pepper shakers and place mats from her travels.
Beulah was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church, having transferred her membership there from the Palmer United Methodist Church where she served as Bible School and Sunday school teacher and pianist. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, Mary Circle and Home Improvement Club. She also volunteered for the elderly, the hospital, clinic and rest homes. She held offices in the school, church, circles and clubs.
She is survived by a son & daughter-in-law, Eugene & Cathi Scarborough of Grand Island; a granddaughter & husband, Joni & Brad Arnett and four great-grandchildren all of Grand Island; a sister Jean Reed of Kearney; a sister-in-law, Mildred Scarborough of St. Paul and a number of nieces & nephews.
Beulah is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold on May 8, 1998 and a sister Dorothy Kanter.
