Betty J. Wibbels, 88, of Grand Island died Thursday, May 19, 2011 at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Wolbach, Nebraska. The Reverend Martin Leeper will officiate. Interment will held at Hillside Cemetery in Wolbach. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Tuesday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.

Memorials are suggested to the Wolbach Community Center.

Betty was born August 23, 1922 to Roy & LaVerne (McCoy) Bissell at Wolbach, Nebraska.

She attended Wolbach Schools and graduated in 1940 from Wolbach High School. She then attended Kearney State College.

Betty was united in marriage to Leonard Wibbels on September 20, 1942 at Wolbach, Nebraska.
The couple moved to Safford, Arizona. In 1954 they moved to Wolbach where they farmed. In 1973 they moved to Grand Island.

During her lifetime she worked at the Hastings Tribune, Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant, Farwell Bureau of Reclamation and the Wolbach Public School.

Betty enjoyed volunteering at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. She was active in church and community organizations. Betty's children and grandchildren kept her very busy as she and Leonard loved to follow their activities. She also enjoyed reading and being around people.

She was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church.

Betty is survived by three sons & two daughters-in-law, Gregg & Linda Wibbels of Grand Island, Alan & Marti Wibbels of Boca Raton, Florida and Jon Wibbels of Sargent Bluffs, Iowa; one daughter & son-in-law, Linda & Kim Summers of Leavenworth, Kansas; 12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Beethe of Seattle, Washington.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard on August 8 2005; one infant son, Lon Jay Wibbels and a brother, Charlie Bissell.
