Betty Sullivan

February 6, 1932 — October 2, 2015

Betty A. Sullivan, 83, of Grand Island, formerly of Palmer died Friday, October 02, 2015 at Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Palmer.  Reverend Martin Leeper will officiate.

Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Central City Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the Palmer United Methodist Church.

Greenway Funeral Home in Palmer is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sullivan was born February 6, 1932 to Ernest and Shirley (Adamson) Scott in Nance County.

She graduated from Fullerton High School in 1949.  She then attended Nebraska Central College in Central City and then Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, graduating with a degree in education.

She was united in marriage to Robert Sullivan on May 1, 1955 at the United Methodist Church in Fullerton.

Betty taught 6 years in rural schools, Columbus and Central City.  She had been a substitute teacher for many years.

They lived and raised their four sons on their farm near Palmer until their recent move to Grand Island.

The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last May.

She was blessed with 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Betty loved to be with her family and she attended many of the events of her children and grandchildren.  She also liked to read and crochet.

She was always available to help out when needed.  She and Bob enjoyed their time at their cabin on Sherman Reservoir.  While on the farm, Betty would take the grandchildren to the creek on their farm and explore.

She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.  Her cooking talents are remembered by many as was her smile.

Betty was a member of the United Methodist Church in Palmer, Loup Valley Homemakers and Palmerettes.

Survivors include her husband, Robert of Grand Island; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Jim and Jeanne Sullivan of Grand Island, their children and grandchild, Neil and Lindsey Sullivan and Auron of Grand Island and Ryan Sullivan and his fiancé Rachel Carrizales of Grand Island; David Sullivan of Houston, TX, Terry and Kim Sullivan of St. Libory, their children and grandchild, Brett and Samie Sullivan of Ashland and Jenny and Matt Cordes and Audra of Kearney, and Grant Sullivan of St. Libory and Robert Eugene and Michelle Sullivan of Tecumseh and their children, Luke Sullivan and his fiancé, Rachel Fowler of Omaha and Spenser Sullivan of Tecumseh.

She is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Connie Hess; and a brother, Allen Scott.
