Betty A. Schmidt, 88, of St. Paul died Friday, October 31, 2014 at Brookefield Park in St. Paul.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul. The Reverends Ray Kosmicki and Tom Ryan will officiate.
Interment will be held in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Elba.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m., Sunday at the church in St. Paul with a wake service held at 6:00 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elba or to the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church Parish Center in St. Paul or to the Ascera Care Home Health & Hospice.
Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge of the arrangements.
Betty was born October 6, 1926 at Ord, Nebraska to Rudolph and Emma (Hinesh) Hosek.
She was raised in Ord and attended Ord High School and graduated in 1943.
Betty worked at an ice cream shop in Ord.
She was united in marriage to Anton Schmidt on August 20, 1946 in Ord, Nebraska. To this union they were blessed with four children.
The couple lived in Cotesfield and then moved to a farm near St. Paul. Betty helped with work on the farm for many years.
After her husband passed away she moved to Matelyn Retirement Community in St. Paul in 2011 and then she moved into Brookefield Park.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elba and the Altar Society. She also was a member of a card club.
Betty enjoyed her time spent with family especially gatherings at the river. She donated much of her time to the church in Elba, playing cards and bingo. In her earlier years, she was a seamstress and made clothing for her children.
She is survived by a son & daughter-in-law, Ron & Kathleen Schmidt of Kearney, three daughters & sons-in-law, Sharon & Roger Walker of St. Paul, Janice & Dan Rosenquist of Columbus, and Diane & John Atchity of Hastings; ten grandchildren, Brian and his wife Faye Walker, Lisa and her husband Roric Siebert, Mark Walker and friend Timeree Andreasen, Matt and his wife Ann Walker, Ben Schmidt, Anna Schmidt, Megan Rosenquist, Ryan Rosenquist, Sam Atchity and Sarah Atchity; five great grandchildren Beckett & Kyson Siebert, Ehryn Schmidt, Everett Walker and Brody Walker; a sister & brother-in-law, Dorothy & Jay Stoddard of Grand Island; two brothers-in-law & sister-in-law, Clarence & Ernestine Schmidt of St. Paul and Edwin Schmidt of Omaha.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Anton on March 27, 2010, a granddaughter Alison Rosenquist and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
