Betty "Jean" Pedersen, 86, of Cotesfield died Thursday, September 25, 2014 at CHI St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Scotia. The Reverends Reverend Shawn Kitzing and Mark Middendorf will officiate.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m., Monday at the church.
Interment will be in the Elba Cemetery in Elba.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
Jean was born May 14, 1928 to LeRoy and Ethel (Maxwell) Yax on the family farm in the Fish Creek area east of Scotia, Nebraska.
She graduated from Scotia High School in 1945.
Jean cooked at the Yancey Hotel in Grand Island for a few years and then taught country school in Greeley County for several years.
Betty Jean was united in marriage to Albert Pedersen on June 10, 1948 at Dannevirke.
In the mid 1960's she worked at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant in Grand Island.
The couple farmed for 60 years near Dannevirke and upon retiring moved into Cotesfield. Jean sold Stanley products and she also cooked for many years for Nila's in Elba.
Jean moved into Brookefield Park in St. Paul on August 12, 2014.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Loup City and the Dannevirke Dandies Extension Club.
Jean enjoyed reading, cooking, canning and her favorite activity was bird watching. She also liked to collect angels.
Jean is survived by her husband Albert "Pete" of Cotesfield; two sons & daughters-in-law, Dennis & Sharon Pedersen of Polk, NE and Chris & Teresa Pedersen of Elba; two daughters & sons-in-law, Jeanie & Dick Wooden of Ogallala, NE and Christy & Mick Lassen of Cotesfield; eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren and she was anxiously awaiting the arrival of a new great grandchild; one God child, Vickie Hughes; two sisters, Nila Rasmussen of Elba and Levon "Vonnie" Dzingle of Loup City, NE; numerous nieces & nephews; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Clifford and Donna Pedersen of Elba and Dennis Rasmussen of Cotesfield.
She is preceded in death by her parents; a brother Bernard Yax; a sister Maxine Rasmussen; brothers-in-law, Robert Rasmussen and Don Dzingle; and a sister-in-law, Kay Larson.
