Arthur D. "Ducky" Davis, 80, of Grand Island, formerly of Palmer died Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday at the United Methodist Church in Palmer. The Reverend Martin Leeper will officiate. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer. There will not be any visitation for Mr. Davis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Palmer United Methodist Church or the Rose Hill Cemetery.
Greenway Funeral Home in Palmer is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Davis was born December 16, 1931 in Shelby, NE to Austin E. and Susan B. (McMillen) Davis.
He was raised in the Belgrade and Fullerton areas where he attended school. After his schooling he farmed with his father in the Belgrade and Fullerton area.
Arthur was united in marriage to Carolyn Condell on March 24, 1957 at the United Methodist Church in Palmer.
Arthur was in the land leveling and farming business in the Palmer area at first with his father and brothers known as Davis and Sons then becoming Davis Brothers Construction. One of their developments was the Davis Lakes area in the east part of Grand Island.
In 1984 they moved to the Worms area and he began driving semi trucks for 15 years. He retired in 1999. After his retirement, for several years he would help his son Tom harvest hay at his ranch, the Bow and Arrow Ranch in Valentine.
The couple moved to Grand Island in 2001.
Arthur enjoyed deer and pheasant hunting, fishing and loved horses. He was very mechanically inclined, being able to fix anything.
He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, American Painted Horse Association and a past member of the Grand Island Saddle Club.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn of Grand Island; one son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Chris Davis of Valentine; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Beverly and Allan Stutzman of Wood River, Rita Grim of Lincoln, Cheryl and Russ Retzlaff of Palmer; 13 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Colleen Davis of Fullerton and George and Sandra Davis of Grand Island; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Winnie Rolf of Bellevue and Kathleen and George Tesar of Valley, NE.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Austin, Wallace and Eugene Davis and two sisters, Lola Rieken and Deva Van DeWalle.
