Mrs. Caspersen was born April 29, 1924 near Boelus to Richard and Edith (Moog) Lemburg.

She attended country school to the 8th grade at District 28 in Howard County.

She was united in marriage to Mervin Caspersen on September 25, 1940 in Boelus.

She farmed with her husband northeast of Boelus and was her husband’s right hand “man”.  They retired in 1976 and moved to Grand Island.

Her husband Mervin died on February 22, 1985.  Arlene continued to live in Grand Island until her health declined and she spent some time in Brookefield Park in St. Paul.  Her family became her caregiver.  She lived with her daughter and son-in-law, JoAnne and Darryl Kroeger where she passed away.

When you walked into her home, you would be greeted with a great variety of food to choose from, an ice cold Pepsi or a steaming hot cup of coffee.  You never went home empty handed, she always had a piece of cake, pie or serving of casserole to share.  The coffee pot was always hot and the watermelon was always cubed into perfect bit size pieces that looked too good to eat.

She loved it when all of the grandkids and great grandkids came to her house and she could watch them play in her yard and when the fun calmed a bit, there would always be a gutter to adjust or tree limb to trim.

Arlene loved to celebrate birthdays.

She was a charter member of Dry Creek Church which later became Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Dannebrog.  She was also a member of Extension Club, Ladies Aide, Lutheran Home Builders, assisted with 4-H, played softball in her younger years.  She played in a card club called the Pinochle Club and was a advanced self-taught seamstress.  She also liked to crochet and cook.

Later in life she enjoyed going to casinos and attending the grandchildren and great grandchildrens activities.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Marvin and Marleen Caspersen of Boelus; two daughters and a son-in-law, Diana Shukis of Ogden, UT and JoAnne and Darryl Kroeger of Dannebrog; twelve grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren and three sisters-in-law, Phyllis Coons of Grand Island, Joyce Lemburg of Kenesaw and Jeanine Lemburg of Boelus.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mervin on February 22, 1985; a grandson, Jay Caspersen; three brothers, Dale, Gilbert and Alvin Lemburg; two sisters, Leona Balderston and Lavina Uleman and two sons-in-law, Ronald Shukis and Pat Raftery.
