Anna S. Petersen

Anna S. Petersen, 89, of Dannebrog died Sunday, January 30, 2011 at the St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday at the First Baptist Church Family Center in Dannebrog. The Reverend Barry Arndt will officiate. Burial will be held in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Dannebrog. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m., Wednesday with a family and friends service at 7:00 p.m. at the church family center.

Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.

Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of the arrangements.

Anna was born April 16, 1921 to Oscar & Johanna (Hansen) Martens in Rodemis, Germany.

She immigrated with her parents to the United States in 1923. They lived with relatives in Clinton, Iowa for a short time and moved to Chadwick, Illinois where she attended school and graduated in 1939.

Anna attended one year at Wheaton College at Wheaton, Illinois.

She worked for families, waitressed and then as a bookkeeper in the Chicago area.

In 1943, she learned to love her Lord.

Anna was united in marriage to Robert Petersen, Sr. on August 20, 1945 in Dannebrog, Nebraska. The couple lived in Oak Park until January 1949 and moved to Dannebrog.

She worked as bookkeeper for a few years. In 1981-1986 she worked as bookkeeper for Petersen Lumber. She also worked for Clutterbug Antique Shop and also was a homemaker.

Anna was an animal lover and loved visiting with friends for coffee at Harriet's in Dannebrog. She enjoyed quilting, making porcelain dolls and collecting antiques. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a great housekeeper and made arts and crafts for many years. She taught her sons to fish and her daughters and granddaughters how to shop.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dannebrog. She was very active in her church and served as treasurer.

She is survived by her husband Robert Petersen, Sr. of Dannebrog; two sons & daughters-in-law, Bob & Zonna Petersen of Dannebrog and Bill & Marge Petersen of Loup City, Nebraska; two daughters & a son-in-law, Betsy Rapier of Chicago, IL and Becky & Mike Cowan of Lancaster, CA; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; and two brothers & sisters-in-law, Warner (Sonny) Martens and Pete & LaVonne Martens all of Savannah, IL.

Anna is preceded in death by her parents and son-in-law, Russell Rapier.
