Alice M. James

Alice M. James, 90, of Wolbach died Tuesday, November 30th at Good Samaritan Village in Grand Island.

Services will be at 10:30 am, Saturday at the Wolbach Methodist Church. The Reverend Martin Leeper will officiate. Burial will be in the Cedar View Cemetery at Doniphan. Visitation will be Friday, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the Wolbach Methodist Church or the Cystic-Fibrosis Foundation.

Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. James was born March 19, 1920 in Hall county to Jacob and Mary (Harshfield) Beekman. Her childhood was spent in the Grand Island and Doniphan area and she attended Grand Island Public Schools.

On July 25, 1936 in St. Paul Alice married Pat James of Grand Island. They lived in Grand Island for several years where Alice was a working wife and mother.


She was employed by Twin Rivers and Fairmont Foods. In 1947 they moved to Wolbach and opened James Produce. They were parents of four daughters and one son. Alice served as the Wolbach Village clerk for several years and had a seasonal income tax service after her retirement from the family business. Pat died in January of 1995.

She was an active member of the Wolbach Methodist Church where she taught Bible School and Sunday School and she served as the church treasure. She was also a member of the local chapter of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Alice enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and visiting with friends and relatives.

She is survived by her daughters, Dona (Carl) Ondracek of Greeley, Patti Krings of Omaha, Cookie (Dick) Greek of Brule, Tami Moore of Kearney, and her son Don (Bonnie) James of Grand Island; 18 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Alice is preceded in death by her husband, Pat, her parents and 7 brothers and 2 sisters.
