Alberta J. Larkowski, 77, of Central City, formerly of Dannebrog died Friday, December 25, 2015 at Litzenberg Memorial Hospital in Central City.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Grand Island. Reverends Ben and Courtney Erzkus will officiate.
Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. in Nysted Cemetery northwest of Dannebrog.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice.
Mrs. Larkowski was born February 13, 1938 in Grand Island to Julius and Christina (Schimmer) Elstermeier.
Alberta was raised in Grand Island and attended Grand Island Schools and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1957.
She then received her certified nurse’s aide certificate from Lutheran Hospital in Grand Island.
Alberta was united in marriage to Tom Reimers on March 28, 1958 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Grand Island.
Alberta worked as a scrub nurse for the Lutheran Hospital in the labor and delivery department.
She also did work as a prep cook at Meves Bowl and other cafes in Grand Island.
Alberta married Donald Larkowski on November 23, 1972 in Axtell.
She worked cleaning houses for many years in Grand Island.
Alberta loved to bowl, play cards, do quilting and needlepoint, ceramics and other crafts. She also volunteered her time at the Nebraska Veteran’s Home. Alberta and her family cleaned many chickens for people.
She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and the Platte-Duetsche of Grand Island, the Dannebrog American Legion Auxiliary, 4-H, Danish Brotherhood and various extension clubs.
Survivors include six sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Lori Reimers of Aurora, Thomas and Evelyn Reimers of Central City, Robert and Ronda Larkowski of Thornton, CO, Allan and Regina Larkowski of Myrtle Beach, SC, Thomas Lee Larkowski of New Mexico, and Michael Kent and Barb Larkowski of O’Neill; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda and Robert Evans of Central City and Diane and Donnie Simpson and Dan Fivas of Utah; 31 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Norman and Alice Elstermeier and Delane and Annette Elstermeier of Grand Island and Gary and Darlene Elstermeier of Chapman; six sisters and brothers-in-law, Geraldine and Myron Norskov of Humphrey, Delores and Johnny Spotanski of Grand Island, Darlene and Elmer Haight of Colorado, Marilyn and Jerry Puppe of Coleridge, Aldene and Lonnie Stewart of St. Paul and Renee and John Herman of Wood River; and a very close and special cousin, Annette “Annie” Smith of Grand Island.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald on March 3, 2008; three granddaughters, Ashley and Amanda Reimers and Trena Walker; one grandson, Jeremy Ridgebear; a daughter, Elizbeth Fivas; a sister-in-law, Dee Elstermeier and a brother-in-law, Darwin McWilliams.
