Agnes R. Happ, 88, of Grand Island, formerly of Wolbach and Greeley died Monday, April 23, 2012 at Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul. The Reverend Ray Kosmicki will officiate. Burial will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Greeley. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m., Wednesday with a wake service held at 7:00 p.m. at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Happ was born March 29, 1924 at Horace, NE to Thomas and Lucille (Welch) Kelly. She attended school at Horace before going to Sacred Heart School in Greeley where she graduated in 1941.
Agnes taught school in O'Connor for three years from 1942 until 1944. She then taught for one year at Reed School east of Greeley.
Agnes was united in marriage to Sylvanus Happ on August 24, 1946 in Greeley. The couple made their home in Greeley. In 1955 they moved to Wolbach where they purchased the bar. They operated the bar until 1974 when they sold it. The couple continued to live in Wolbach until 1977 when they moved to Grand Island.
Agnes worked for a while at K-Mart and Allens.
In July 2011 she moved to Matelyn Retirement Community in St. Paul.
Her grandchildren were very important to Agnes and she loved to play cards with them and her children. She also enjoyed sewing for her children, crocheting, canning and dancing.
Agnes served as a volunteer at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul, the Platt-Duetsche in Grand Island and various card clubs.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Jeanne Happ of Palmer; four daughters and sons-in-law, Karen Happ and her friend Chuck Anders of Superior, Sharon and Jim Goettsche of Columbus, Rita and Jack Smits of Ashland and Judy and Denny O'Gorman of Wolbach; 12 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sister Pauletta Kelly of St. Catherines, KY and Patricia Kittridge and her husband Tom of Westminster, CO, many nieces and nephews who thought she was a very special aunt and a sister-in-law, Ethel Happ of Greeley.
Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sylvanus; and a grandson, Michael O'Gorman.
