Ada Pelican, 92, of Palmer died Sunday, May 09, 2010 at Golden Living Center in Fullerton.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Palmer. The Reverend Martin Leeper will officiate. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the Palmer United Methodist Church or to the family's choice.

Greenway Funeral Home in Palmer is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Pelican was born March 12, 1918 in the Glenwood area north of Palmer to Benjamin C. and Inez (Gates) Brown.

Ada was raised north of Palmer and attended grade school District 4 in the Glenwood area of Nance County and then attended and graduated from Fullerton High School. She attended normal training in Kearney. She then taught rural grade school in Nance and Merrick counties.

She was united in marriage to Leonard Pelican on September 12, 1940 in Grand Island.

The couple lived in the Palmer area for all of their lives where Ada helped on the farm and was also a homemaker.

Ada enjoyed painting, reading, traveling, and being active in clubs. She was a founder and life member of the Loup Valley Homemakers Extension Club.

She received the Good Neighbor Award in Palmer in 1993.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women in Palmer. She taught Sunday School in the Palmer Methodist Church and served as superintendent for many years. She was also a member of the Palmer Women's Club, sketch club of Central City and was an active 4-H leader.

She is survived by her husband, Leonard of Palmer; one daughter and son-in-law, Carol Jean and Norm Hietbrink of Blair; three grandchildren and spouses and eleven great-grandchildren, Karen and Dan Hassman and their children, Melissa, Holly, Brianne, Lindsey, Kaitlyn and Janae of Marshalltown, IA; Linda and Rob Wilson and their children, Tim, Britta and Scott of Urbandale, IA and Bruce and Corrie Hietbrink and their children Maddison and Daniel of Marlton, NJ; a sister, Beulah Sterling of Oxnard, CA; and one sister-in-law, Dolores Brown of Grand Island.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three infant children; two brothers, Buren and Benjamin M. Brown; and a half sister, Mildred Wheelon.
