Aage R. Clausen, 78, of Columbus, Ohio died Friday, January 14, 2011 in Columbus.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday at St. Peder's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nysted. The Reverend Katharine Yarnell will officiate. Interment will be in the Nysted Cemetery.
Contributions in his memory can to be sent to the Lifelong Learning Scholarship at Grand View University, 1200 Grandview Ave, Des Moines IA 50316 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Clausen received his Ph. D. from the University of Michigan and was a professor at the Ohio State University from 1971 until he retired in 1997.
Aage was the son of Danish immigrants. He grew up on a farm in Dannebrog and was the first member of his family to attend college. He was grateful for the opportunities he had in life; in return, he helped provide opportunities in the lives of young people. Beginning in 2005, he helped fund a scholarship program at Grand View University and the scholarships will continue with the funding from his legacy.
After Aage retired, he tutored math at Buckeye Middle School in Columbus, OH.
Survivors include a son, Jon Clausen of San Diego, CA; a brother, Thorvald Clausen of Seattle; and two nephews, Lowen Clausen of Seattle and Fred Clausen of Missoula, MT.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Geraldine Clausen.
