Robert Gadsby

October 6, 1944 — September 13, 2016

Robert “Bob” G. Gadsby, 71, of Grand Island, formerly of the Elba and Ord areas died Tuesday, September 13, 2016 in Lincoln.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul. Reverend Jon Keyser will officiate.

Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Elba with military honors by Carl Mogensen American Legion Post #119 of St. Paul.

Visitation will be on Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

A time to gather for refreshments will be held after the committal service in the Elba Community Center.

Memorials are suggested to the Wounded Warrior’s Project in Bob’s name.

Mr. Gadsby was born October 6, 1944 in South Dakota to Tracy and Loretta Gadsby.

Bob served in the United States Army from 1966 until 1974 in the Vietnam War as a door gunner.  He spent time during his service in Germany.

He was united in marriage to Mary Purcell on June 8, 1977 in Aurora, Oregon.

Bob spent most of his working life as a truck driver across the United States.  He earned numerous safe driving awards.

Survivors include a son, Robert Gadsby and Tina Gibson-Gadsby and her children of Lincoln; a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Joseph Eastwood of San Antonio, TX; several grandchildren who were especially close to Bob, Derrick Gadsby and Katherine Hernandez, Michael Eastwood, Brittney Eastwood, Sheree Medlock, Zaria Medlock and Kasara Sue Barger; two great-grandchildren, Antonio Gadsby and Prometheus Neil Gadsby; a brother, Ronald Gadsby; sisters, Donna Gadsby, Pat Sharp, Linde Kornaza and Sharon Hamer; and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; a brother and sister.
